15th-century church in Giungano dedicated to the Assumption, with a trussed roof, a large Assumption canvas and an old organ.
The Church of Santa Maria Assunta is the main religious focal point of the historic centre of Giungano, a hill village overlooking the plain of Paestum. Its origins date back to the 15th century, and it holds a wooden statue which, according to tradition, was saved by inhabitants fleeing the ancient coastal city.Inside, beneath the trussed roof, we suggest looking at the large canvas of the Assumption of Mary and, in the choir loft above the entrance, the old organ already recorded in the pastoral visitation of 1689. We like coming up here after a visit to the temples of Paestum, to enjoy the quiet of the village and the view over the plain.
