In the crypt of the collegiate church, a museum telling the story of Altavilla Irpina through finds, old costumes and sulphur mines.

In Altavilla Irpina, the Museum of the People Without History is housed in the crypt of the collegiate church of the Assunta. Its rooms tell the story of the area from prehistory to the late Roman Empire through archaeological finds, followed by medieval and Renaissance stonework and a collection of old sacred vestments worn by the local clergy in the 17th and 18th centuries. We are particularly struck by the room of traditional costumes, with clothes worn by adults and children in the early 19th century, recovered and restored. In the entrance, an exhibition devoted to the sulphur mines recalls an important chapter of the local economy: we suggest spending a few minutes there to truly understand the life of these communities.
