In Palazzo Forte, in the centre of Ariano Irpino, civic collections and a rich collection of 17th–18th-century local maiolica.

In the historic centre of Ariano Irpino, the historic Palazzo Forte houses the Civic and Ceramics Museum. An educational and research centre is located in Palazzo San Giacomo, in the Tranesi district, a neighbourhood carved into the rock where the pottery kilns once operated. We like the way the museum thus links the collection to the places where it was made. The heart of the collections is a large collection of Ariano maiolica, mainly from the 17th and 18th centuries, alongside Apulian pottery from the 5th–4th centuries BC and terracotta female busts linked to deities such as Demeter and the Samnite Kere. We also recommend the section of rare 16th- and 17th-century books, the civic photographic archive from 1865 to 1955 and the modern art gallery.
