A Baroque church of ancient Lombard foundation, with a chapel by Filippo Raguzzini and a bust of Benedict XIII.

The church of the Santissima Annunziata in Benevento has very ancient origins: according to tradition it was built in 664 by Duke Romuald after a victory over the troops of Emperor Constans II. Before the town hall existed, the community's assemblies met here for their most important decisions. Destroyed by the 1688 earthquake, it was rebuilt at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. The Baroque interior has three chapels decorated with gilded stucco and a marble altar with an Annunciation of the Neapolitan school. We suggest lingering in the chapel of San Gennaro, the work of Filippo Raguzzini in 1710, over the works by Giuseppe Castellano and the bust of Pope Benedict XIII from 1752. The choir holds an 18th-century organ.
