12th-century church in Sala Consilina, known for its frescoes and two 17th-century canvases by the painter known as Pietrafesa.

Among the oldest religious buildings in Sala Consilina is the Church of Santo Stefano, whose origins are traced back to the 12th century, when this Vallo di Diano town gained a number of Norman-era churches. We like it because it still keeps the charm of a layered place, also admired for its frescoes.Inside, we suggest looking for two 17th-century paintings attributed to the Lucanian painter known as Pietrafesa: a Madonna della Consolazione between Saints Augustine, Stephen, Mary Magdalene and Monica, and a Madonna delle Grazie with Saints Onuphrius and Charles Borromeo. Two works that tell well of 17th-century local devotion.
