Franciscan sanctuary on the outskirts of Piedimonte Matese, with a frescoed 14th-century apse and a three-nave layout.
Just outside the centre of Piedimonte Matese stands the sanctuary of Santa Maria Occorrevole, in the care of the Franciscan friars. It was built in the 15th century on an older structure, extensively remodelled in the 17th century and restored in 1934. Today it has a three-nave layout.Above all we love the 14th-century apse, which preserves frescoes from the early 15th century: it is worth giving it a few extra minutes. The sanctuary was one of the jubilee churches of the diocese of Alife-Caiazzo during the Jubilee of Mercy and the Holy Year 2025. We suggest getting here at a relaxed pace and enjoying the peace of the place.
