Small late-Gothic church in Piedimonte Matese, a national monument entirely frescoed by a follower of Pietro Cavallini.

In Piedimonte Matese we take you to a small treasure chest of art: the Church of San Biagio, built between the late 14th and early 15th centuries for the Iacobucci family and later passed to the Meola and Cenci families. In late-Gothic style, it has a single nave covered by two pointed vaults. In 1926 it was declared a national monument and today it is in the care of the bishop's Curia. The reason to come here is the frescoes covering the vaults and walls, the high-quality work of an unknown follower of Pietro Cavallini. On the walls you can make out the Miracles of Saint Blaise and stories from the childhood of Jesus; in the vaults, scenes from the Annunciation to the Nativity and tales from Genesis. We like noticing that the scenes do not follow a chronological order: we suggest taking your time to piece them back together.
