A late 15th-century building on the Ufita plain, an old customs house on the transhumance routes between Campania and Apulia.
On the plain of the Ufita valley, not far from the centre of Flumeri, stands the Aragonese Customs House, built at the end of the 15th century at the behest of Frederick of Aragon, who according to some sources also used it as a hunting lodge. Its main function, however, was as a customs house, a hub for trade and for the movement of flocks between Campania and Apulia.We like to think of this building as a gateway between two regions, crossed for centuries by shepherds and merchants along the transhumance routes. We suggest visiting it together with the Roman remains nearby, in the area where the Via Appia and the Via Aemilia met: a little journey through the history of Irpinia's roads.
