Controne's parish church, heir to a powerful medieval Benedictine abbey, with a marble altar of 1727.

The Church of San Nicola di Bari is what remains of an old Benedictine abbey, already documented in a papal bull of 1168 and for centuries independent of the bishops' authority. Today it is the parish church of Controne, a small town at the foot of the Alburni famous for its beans.Inside, divided into three naves, we suggest looking at the elegant high altar in white and polychrome marble of 1727 and, in the right nave, the statue of the saint signed in 1806. In the sacristy a plaque recalls a bull of Pope Benedict XIII. We like visiting on 6 December, when the community celebrates St Nicholas with special solemnity.
