Castle of Postiglione

On the summit of Postiglione, also called the balcony of the Alburni, rises the Norman castle, whose construction is attributed to the Hauteville brothers around the year 1000. It is an elaborate system of fortifications built around a main block, with several towers that for centuries controlled a strategic, contested position.In the 20th century, during the World Wars, it was also used as a military prison. Today we like coming up here above all for the panorama: the view sweeps from the Gulf of Salerno to Cilento, from the Vallo di Diano to the Alburni, and on clear days as far as the coast and the island of Capri. We suggest arriving in the late afternoon.
