Church of San Domenico in Benevento

On Piazza Guerrazzi in Benevento stands the church of San Domenico, founded in 1233 by the Beneventan jurist Roffredo Epifanio. Destroyed by the 1688 earthquake, it was rebuilt on the initiative of Cardinal Orsini and consecrated in 1708. In the 19th century the former convent became the Palace of Justice and the Baroque façade gave way to a neoclassical front.Inside, in a Latin-cross plan, we find marble altars and sober stucco; the pronaos is supported by ancient columns. We suggest looking for the altarpiece of Saint Vincent by Donato Piperno, the wooden Risen Christ by Gennaro Cerasuolo and the funerary monument of General Manhès. We like to end the visit in the garden, home to Mimmo Paladino's Hortus Conclusus.
