Church in Rutino Scalo dedicated to Saints Anne and Joachim, heart of the hamlet and of its late-July festival.
Heading down towards the Alento valley you reach Rutino Scalo, the hamlet that grew up around the railway station opened in 1887 and now out of service. Here stands the church dedicated to Saints Anne and Joachim, the parents of the Virgin: it is the only building from the hamlet's most vibrant years still in use, and so it seems to us a small symbol of the local community.St Anne is the hamlet's patron and is celebrated on the Sunday after 26 July: we suggest dropping by then to soak up the atmosphere of Cilento village festivals. From here it is easy to climb back up to the centre of Rutino and nearby Rocca Cilento, which dominates the area from above.
