Castelpoto Castle

We climb up to the upper part of Castelpoto, where the memory of the Lombard castrum survives, linked to the name of Poto, a lord mentioned in the deed of 851 that divided the principalities of Benevento and Salerno. From that fortified core, on a hill overlooking the Calore valley and the Benevento plain, the whole medieval settlement developed.We like to see the castle as the heart of the Lombard village: after the Lombards the site became the seat of a Norman barony and then followed the fortunes of the Swabians and the later kingdoms. We recommend strolling through the surrounding alleys, enjoying the view and the intimate atmosphere of a village that carefully preserves its identity.
