In Pignataro Maggiore, the bishop's palace, built in the 17th century for the bishops of Calvi and renovated in the 18th, beside the mother church.

The bishop's palace of Pignataro Maggiore tells an eventful chapter of local history. In 1647, during Masaniello's uprising, Calvi was sacked and the bishop's residence almost destroyed: Bishop Gennaro I then moved the see to Pignataro, where a new residence for the bishops of Calvi was built in the 17th century. The building was rebuilt around 1760–70 and today appears as a large 18th-century palace, attached to the Church of Santa Maria della Misericordia. We like that it is still a living space, used by the parish and sometimes hosting musical performances linked to the Caruso Competition. We suggest viewing it together with the mother church during a stroll around town.
