In the crypt of Benevento Cathedral, the diocesan museum keeps what was saved from the cathedral's destruction in the war.

Benevento's Diocesan Museum is housed in the crypt of the Cathedral, which was the first church built on this spot. Here is gathered what could be saved from the destruction of the cathedral during the bombings of the Second World War, a heritage that tells many centuries of the city's history.Among the most interesting pieces are ancient frescoes, the bishop's throne known as the throne of Saint Barbatus and the remains of the tombs of the Lombard princes from Piazza Duomo. We like going down into this intimate space to rediscover the bond between Benevento and its Lombard era. We suggest combining the visit with the cathedral and the historic centre.
