In Benevento's Triggio district, the remains of a 2nd-century AD Roman bath complex near the church of San Cristiano.

In the Triggio district, along Via San Cristiano, survive the remains of a Roman bath complex, probably from the first half of the 2nd century AD given its construction similarities with the city's Roman theatre. Already described in the 17th century, they were identified as baths by Almerico Meomartini at the end of the 19th century; one theory links them to the Baths of Commodus, but this is not certain. We are struck by the upper room, over six metres high, with walls in opus caementicium and brick facing, beneath which opens a vaulted underground room. In the nearby area a burial ground grew up in the Lombard period. We suggest seeing them on a stroll through the Triggio, bearing in mind that the rooms are partly used as storerooms and that the area is not an equipped site.
