A wooded volcanic crater, once a royal hunting reserve and now a nature oasis.
The Astroni is one of the craters of the Campi Flegrei, between Naples and Pozzuoli. Inside the crater walls grow woods of holm oak, chestnut and oak, and on the floor there are small lakes where waterbirds live.For centuries it was the hunting reserve of the Aragonese and the Bourbons, who enclosed it with a wall. Today it is a state nature reserve: you walk down the trails to the little lakes, an outing that is suitable for children too.
