Flavian Amphitheatre of Pozzuoli
Il terzo anfiteatro romano d'Italia per grandezza, a Pozzuoli, con i sotterranei ben conservati.
Church · Pozzuoli (NA)

A 16th-century Carmelite church, enlarged in the 19th century and dedicated to the Madonna della Consolazione, restored several times.
The church was built in the early 16th century by the Carmelite fathers of the Carmine Maggiore in Naples and was originally dedicated to Saint James. In the second half of the 18th century it was restored. We like discovering how different dedications and events follow one another in a single building, a mirror of the town's history. With the suppression of religious orders in 1806, the church passed to Bishop Carlo Maria Rosini, who between 1810 and 1817 enlarged it and dedicated it to the Madonna della Consolazione. In 1846 it was restored again at the wish of Luigi of Bourbon, and further major works followed in 1930 and 1943. We recommend a stop during your walk in the centre.
