Museum · Ariano Irpino (AV)

In the former church of the Annunziata and Santa Lucia, paintings, textiles and sacred sculpture from the diocese of Ariano Irpino-Lacedonia.
Opened in 1996 in the former church of the Annunziata and Santa Lucia, along the old road between Naples and Apulia, the Diocesan Museum gathers works from across the diocese of Ariano Irpino-Lacedonia. Paintings, textiles, sculptures, inscriptions and tabernacles mainly tell the story of sacred art from the Renaissance onwards. On the ground floor are the vestments, some bearing bishops' coats of arms, while marble sculptures line the stairs. On the upper floor we love the canvases of the 17th- and 18th-century Neapolitan school and the Annunciation by Wenzel Cobergher. We suggest also going down into the old crypt and combining your visit with the nearby Silver Museum.
