Archbishop's Palace of Benevento

In Benevento's historic centre, on Piazza Orsini, the Archbishop's Palace has a very long history, with origins in the 9th–10th centuries and many interventions commissioned by cardinals in later centuries. Badly hit in 1943, it was rebuilt in the 1950s beside the new Cathedral to a design by Paolo Rossi De Paoli.We like knowing that it holds the Chapter Library, with parchments and illuminated codices such as the Obituary of Santo Spirito from 1198, and the Pacca Archiepiscopal Library. The diocesan museum keeps remains of the cathedral treasury, including the throne of Saint Barbatus and the Janua Major, the cathedral's original bronze door. In the courtyard await the bust of Benedict XIII and two lions from the old doorway.
