In Alife the archaeological museum tells the story of ancient Allifae with finds from Monte Cila and the necropolises, Roman frescoes and mosaics.
The Archaeological Museum of Ancient Allifae displays weapons, stone tools, pottery and metal objects arranged by period and find spot, from the Monte Cila area to Roccavecchia di Pratella and the materials from the necropolises. Educational panels help even non-experts to read the finds.Among our favourite pieces is a fragment of Fourth Style fresco from a Roman domus overlooking the decumanus maximus, excavated in the early 1990s, and, in a lower room, fragments of black and white mosaic floors dating from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD. We recommend completing the visit with a walk along the town's Roman walls.
