Remains of a 1st-century BC Roman villa linked to Marius, Lucullus and the death of Tiberius, visible from the beach near the Dragonara.

On the coast of Bacoli lie the remains of the so-called Villa of Lucullus, a Roman residence from the 1st century BC. Ancient sources remember it because Emperor Tiberius died here in AD 37, during a journey from Capri to Naples. We are fascinated by how much history has passed along this stretch of sea.The villa first belonged to the senator Marius and then to the general Lucius Licinius Lucullus; on his death it became imperial property. Today, from the beach, you can see the surviving rooms carved into the tuff along the coast near the Dragonara cave. We recommend a walk along the shore to discover them.
