Aqueduct · Bacoli (NA)

The Phlegraean stretch of the great Augustan-age aqueduct that carried water from the Serino springs to the Piscina Mirabilis.
In the age of Augustus, around AD 10, the Romans built the Serino aqueduct, also known as the Augustan aqueduct, to supply water to Naples and the Phlegraean area. In Bacoli you come across the traces of the final stretch of this grand work, and we like to follow its route in our minds from Irpinia down to the sea.The conduit started from the Serino spring and reached the Piscina Mirabilis at Miseno, the great cistern that supplied the Roman fleet, after a course of about 96 kilometres. That is why it is considered one of the longest Roman aqueducts ever built. We recommend combining the visit with the Piscina Mirabilis.
