The museum of the world's oldest volcano observatory, with Luigi Palmieri's 1856 seismograph and a multimedia tour on volcanoes.

The museum of the Vesuvius Observatory brings together volcanic rocks, maps, prints and historical footage on the life of Vesuvius, along with the scientific instruments used by scholars over the centuries. The piece that moves us most is Luigi Palmieri's electromagnetic seismograph of 1856. Since 2009 there has also been a multimedia tour on Italian volcanoes, with a small room for 3D films: we recommend going before you climb up to the crater.
