The funerary altar of Marcus Nonius Balbus, benefactor of Herculaneum, on the terrace in front of the baths.
Marcus Nonius Balbus was one of the most important citizens of Herculaneum and funded public works after the earthquake of AD 62. The city dedicated a funerary altar and a statue to him.The altar stands on the terrace that bears his name, above the Suburban Baths. Next to it is the base of the statue, now replaced by a copy.
