The house in Herculaneum overlooking the sea, named after a gem portraying Empress Livia.

The House of the Gem stands on the southern edge of Herculaneum, with rooms that overlooked the sea. Its name comes from an engraved gem with the portrait of a woman, perhaps Livia, wife of Augustus. It preserves mosaic floors and frescoes on a red background.
