The park created in 1995 to protect the Somma-Vesuvius volcanic complex, with craters, fertile lava soils and local products.

The Vesuvius National Park was established on 5 June 1995 to protect biodiversity and the natural balance around the Somma and Vesuvius mountains, and also to curb the building expansion that over the centuries had pushed right up onto the volcano's slopes. We like to think of this park as a safeguard for one of Campania's most iconic landscapes.Vesuvius, with its truncated-cone shape, is among the most studied active volcanoes in the world: it reaches 1,277 metres and its crater is about 450 metres across. The lava soils are extremely fertile and produce excellent foods such as the Piennolo cherry tomato PDO, pellecchiella apricots and Catalanesca grapes: we recommend tasting them during your visit.
