Torre della Guardia

A medieval watchtower on a cliff above the sea at Anacapri, facing Punta Carena, rebuilt by the British in the Napoleonic era.

On the south-western side of Capri, the Torre della Guardia rises on the edge of a sheer drop looking towards Punta Carena. Built of rough stone in medieval times, it was originally a lookout point for watching over the sea. We like coming here to admire the rugged landscape of this less crowded part of the island. Its round tower also tells a more recent story: it was rebuilt by the British when, in the early 19th century, they fortified the southern and western sides of the island against the French troops of Joachim Murat. We recommend combining the visit with a walk to the Punta Carena lighthouse.
