Temple of Diana in Bacoli

A large Roman thermal hall with a half-collapsed pointed dome, once decorated with friezes of hunting scenes dedicated to Diana.

The so-called Temple of Diana is in fact a large Roman thermal hall, where the vapours rising from the ground were collected. You can already spot it from the Cumana railway station, and it is impossible not to be struck by its pointed dome, now half collapsed. The name comes from its decoration: the building was adorned with marble friezes showing hunting scenes dedicated to the goddess Diana. We like stopping here to see how the volcanic nature of the Campi Flegrei was already exploited in ancient times. We recommend including it in an itinerary among the baths of Baia.
