A 17th-century co-cathedral in the Episcopio quarter, with a late Renaissance tuff façade and the surviving bell tower of the Romanesque cathedral.

In the Episcopio quarter stands Sarno cathedral, dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel and now co-cathedral of the diocese of Nocera Inferiore-Sarno. The bishopric dates from 1066, but the old Romanesque church was rebuilt from scratch in the 17th century by Bishop Stefano Sole di Castelblanco and inaugurated in 1627; a few years later the 1631 eruption of Vesuvius badly damaged it.Of the Romanesque cathedral only the bell tower remains, to the right of the late Renaissance tuff façade. We recommend looking up at the pediment with Saint Michael brandishing his sword and looking for the busts of Peter and Paul in the niches. Inside is the single hall with eight chapels and the coffered ceiling commissioned by Bishop de Tura.
