Former Benedictine abbey of Solopaca, rebuilt several times, which holds the Romanesque statue of the Madonna del Roseto.
The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Roseto in Solopaca began as a Benedictine abbey, probably in the 12th century; the first document about the monastery dates from 1214. The monks left in the 16th century and the complex fell into ruin. Rebuilt in the 18th century, it collapsed in the 1805 earthquake, but the statue of the Madonna was saved and taken to the Church of San Mauro.We love the story of its rebirth: in 1844, during a drought, the statue was carried in procession and, after a sudden downpour, the townspeople decided to rebuild the sanctuary. The church is a single hall with side chapels. We recommend pausing at the statue of the Madonna del Roseto, from the Romanesque period, datable to the 13th century and the true treasure of the place.
