Small early medieval monastery on Monte Raione, mentioned as early as 819, along the path to the Grotto of the Angel.

Halfway up Monte Raione, along the path leading to the Grotto of San Michele, lies the Cell of San Vincenzo, once the home of the hermit who kept the grotto. It was a small monastery linked to the abbey of San Vincenzo al Volturno: a document of 819, issued in Aachen by Louis the Pious, lists it among the properties donated to that abbey.Around the year 1000, with the birth of the ecclesiastical fief of Olevano, it became independent, and as early as around 870 a pilgrim monk returning from the Holy Land had left a record of it. Recently restored, it preserves a small church with a sail vault and traces of stucco, service rooms on the ground floor and the monks' cells on the upper floor. We recommend stopping here during the climb.
