An ancient coastal tower in Maiori on a rocky spur, symbol of the town and set for scenes from the film Paisà.

Anyone arriving in Maiori by sea or walking along the seafront recognises it at once: the Norman Tower, also known as Torre d'Angolo, rises on a rocky spur and seems to merge with the cliff. It is considered the oldest of the towers that defended this stretch of coast from pirate raids. The coastal towers of the Amalfi Coast communicated with one another using fire and smoke signals to raise the alarm. In 1946, in front of this tower, Roberto Rossellini filmed some scenes of Paisà. We love admiring it at sunset; we suggest walking to the far end of the promenade to enjoy its best profile.
