Village scattered on the slopes between Monte Tre Pizzi and the sea, on both sides of Capo Sottile, with Marina di Praia as its ancient landing place.

Praiano stretches between Positano and Conca dei Marini, on both sides of Capo Sottile. Its historic centre is made up of houses scattered along the last stretch of the rocky slope that descends from the 1,122 metres of Monte Tre Pizzi to the sea. Below, the Marina di Praia, enclosed by high rock walls, was the only landing place of ancient Plagianum. The name may come from a Roman landowner called Pelagius, or from the Latin pelagus, the sea. After being joined to Amalfi, Praiano was raised to the status of Università by Charles I of Anjou, who had the Torre Assiola built against Saracen raids. We recommend exploring it on foot, among stairways and viewpoints.
