Village · Contrada (AV)

Small Irpinian village recorded since 1213, in an area inhabited in Roman times and crossed by the imperial aqueduct.
The town's name first appears in a document of 1213, a deed of donation drawn up at the church of Santa Maria di Materdomini. The word comes from late Latin and meant a district or hamlet. In Roman times this area was part of the territory of the colony of Abellinum.Burials, inscriptions and fragments found nearby suggest ancient rural settlements, while beneath the present village traces of the imperial-age Claudian aqueduct were noted in the past. We like strolling through its streets with this long history in mind.
