A grand 19th-century arcade opposite the Teatro San Carlo, with an iron-and-glass dome almost 57 metres high and zodiac mosaics.

Right in front of the Teatro San Carlo opens the main façade of the Galleria Umberto I, designed by Luigi Emanuele Rocco, Antonio Curri and Ernesto Di Mauro. Its eclectic decoration gives it a sumptuous feel, and we like crossing it as a covered square linking some of the liveliest streets in the centre of Naples.Looking up, you can take in the iron and glass structure of the dome and vaults: cutting-edge materials at the time, which made the building site a real engineering challenge. The dome reaches about 56.7 metres in height. We then suggest lowering your eyes to the floor, where mosaics with the signs of the zodiac decorate the central space.
