Filangieri Castle

Lapio, a small hill village famous for its Fiano wine, was a Lombard domain and later a fief of the noble Neapolitan Filangieri family. Some remains of the medieval castle survive today, recalling the village's old role as a stronghold. We like to imagine how, from the top of the hill, the local lords controlled a territory of woods, fields and vineyards, the same landscape that still greets anyone who makes it up here.Next to the ruins, the Filangieri baronial palace dates from the 13th–14th centuries and preserves rooms with fine frescoes; the complex suffered some damage in the 1980 earthquake. We suggest combining the visit with a stroll through the historic centre: we love discovering how the history of a noble family is intertwined here with that of the vineyards.
