The mother church of San Potito Sannitico, opened for worship in 1601, with a coffered wooden ceiling and older frescoes.
In the historic centre of San Potito Sannitico stands the mother church, dedicated to St Catherine, Virgin and Martyr. It was opened for worship on 15 April 1601, initially as the Church of San Potito, but it preserves older frescoes and architectural features dating from between the 14th and 16th centuries. Over time it was enlarged several times, reaching its present appearance at the end of the 18th century.We like the façade, dominated by a large Baroque window, and the single-nave interior, where an elegant wooden ceiling with hexagonal coffers hides the pitches of the roof. The side chapels hold numerous wooden statues and 19th-century paintings. The 2017 restoration gave the building, especially its exterior, a well-kept appearance: we suggest not missing it.
