Church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo in Cautano

  • Visit: about 20 min
  • 305 m

Church in Cacciano, a hamlet of Cautano, consecrated in 1703 and rebuilt in neoclassical style on a Romanesque structure.

The Church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo stands in Piazza Corticella, in the centre of Cacciano, a hamlet of Cautano. Consecrated in 1703, it was later rebuilt in load-bearing masonry in neoclassical forms, over an original Romanesque structure. We like discovering in these small buildings the layering of centuries that characterises so many villages of the Sannio. The interior has a single nave, covered by a coffered ceiling, with five side chapels. We recommend visiting it together with the confraternity church of San Sebastiano, which stands on the same square and is a few years older: two churches just a few steps apart, ideal for a quiet stop during a tour of the slopes of Mount Taburno.
