Three-nave parish church of San Tammaro with a gilded coffered ceiling, dedicated to the bishop of Benevento who gave the town its name.
The Church of San Tammaro Vescovo is the parish church of the town of the same name, dedicated to the 5th-century bishop of Benevento who gave his name to both the parish and the municipality. Medieval sources already mention it in the 14th century in the tithe registers, and it very probably arose on an old shrine dedicated to the saint between the 12th and early 14th centuries.On entering, we are struck by the gilded coffered ceiling covering the three naves, the central one taller and wider. We suggest heading to the last altar of the right nave, where you will find the wooden statue of San Tammaro with a tabernacle holding relics of local saints. In the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, on the marble altar, the image of Maria Santissima della Libera, the town's co-patron, is venerated.
