Ancient church on a green hill between Serramezzana and Capograssi, documented since the 10th century, with frescoes and curious statues holding children.

On a lush hill, between the hamlets of Serramezzana above and Capograssi below, stands the church of San Nicola. The first records of this sacred place date back to the 10th century; today the church is part of the old cemetery complex of the village, set in a very evocative landscape.Inside, behind the altar, the statue of the saint is flanked by two figures each holding a child, one on the right arm and the other on the left: this arrangement is said to recall the transition from the Greek rite to the Roman one. We also recommend looking at the frescoes and, in the churchyard, the white marble cippus with the cross, the image of St Nicholas and an inscription.
