The mother church of Prata di Principato Ultra, dedicated to Saint James, damaged by the 1980 earthquake and heart of the patronal feast on 25 July.
In the historic centre of Prata di Principato Ultra, between the baronial palace and the Grillo and Ciambelli palaces, stands the church of San Giacomo, the village's mother church. Sources place it in the 18th century, in a village that has lived through centuries of events, from its destruction in 1134 to the serious damage of the earthquakes of 1694 and 1732.In the 1980 earthquake the church partly collapsed, along with its bell tower, and its recent history is tied to reconstruction. We like coming back on 25 July, when the community celebrates Saint James right here. We suggest completing the visit with the nearby early Christian basilica of the Annunziata, a short walk from the centre.
