One of the longest-running food festivals in the Sannio, the Wild Boar Festival in Dugenta has been going for over forty years and this year stays open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 1 November. We suggest it for an autumn Sunday lunch in the Telesina valley, a few minutes from the Fondo Valle Isclero road.
The menu revolves around wild boar: pappardelle with ragù, strozzapreti, ravioloni and gnocchi, slow-cooked boar braciata, porchetta, beans with pork rind and sausage, and boards of boar salami and cheese. Friday and Saturday are for dinner; on Sunday it serves both lunch and dinner.
Our tip: Saturday night and Sunday lunch get very busy, so arrive early. The festival grounds are on Via Fossi, well signposted from the Dugenta exit.
