18th-century palatial villa in Lanzara, linked to drawings by Luigi Vanvitelli, with a chapel, cellars and a water-rich park.

In the hamlet of Lanzara stands Villa Calvanese, a large palatial house built in the second half of the 18th century by the architect Carmine Calvanese. At the Bourbon court he met Luigi Vanvitelli, who out of esteem prepared the drawings for the new residence and garden free of charge, signing the plates with his original Dutch surname. The complex included a rectangular palace with a courtyard and about fifty rooms on two floors, a family chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, rooms for wine and oil, a large cellar and the stables. The park behind was a masterpiece of hydraulic engineering, designed around water. We recommend admiring it from the outside as you stroll around the square.
