A 16th-century watchtower on the headland of Vettica Minore, Amalfi, clearly visible from Santa Croce beach.

On the cape of Vettica Minore, a hamlet of Amalfi, rises a 16th-century watchtower, one of the many sentinels built along the coast to defend against raids from the sea. Its square silhouette, clinging to the rock, is one of the most recognisable features of the coastal landscape between Amalfi and Conca dei Marini. The tower cannot be visited inside, but we love admiring it from afar: we suggest viewing it from Santa Croce beach or from the sea, perhaps during a boat trip along the coast. It is a fine example of how history and nature blend on this stretch of the Amalfi Coast.
