Christmas in Amalfi has a sound of its own: the zampogna bagpipes. From 8 December the zampognari wander the streets of the centre, and on Christmas Day they climb up to the hamlets, from Pogerola to Vettica. In Vettica the Novena ends at dawn on Christmas Eve with music and bagpipes.

Between 26 December and early January comes the Amalfi folk New Year: folk groups from the hamlets parade and perform to wish everyone a happy new year, while New Year's Eve ends with fireworks over the bay. On 6 January the Pastorelli procession with the bagpipers opens the last day, which ends with the Christ Child being put back in place in the Cathedral.

The 2026/27 programme has not been published yet. We suggest going up to at least one hamlet: that's where you experience the tradition up close.
