A mountain hermitage above Serino, in the Monti Picentini Park, destination of the 6 August pilgrimage.

On the mountains above Serino, at over a thousand metres, stands the sanctuary of the Santissimo Salvatore, a hermitage set in the Monti Picentini Regional Park. Every year, on 6 August, a pilgrimage takes place here in honour of the Saviour and Saint Michael the Archangel, a tradition dear to the community.We suggest reaching it on foot: the paths cross chestnut woods and ferns and require some fitness, but they reward you with wide views over the Irpinian valleys. We like the idea of combining hiking and spirituality, perhaps starting from the picnic areas higher up; do remember to respect the rules of the protected area.
