Capuchin complex in Cerreto Sannita, founded in the 16th century, with the neo-Gothic Cappellone and the wooden statue of the Madonna.

The Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie in Cerreto Sannita brings together a church and a friary run by the Capuchin friars. The first stone was laid in 1584; damaged by the 1688 earthquake, the complex was rebuilt by 1696 and the church was consecrated in 1726, while the façade dates from 1921. We like the fact that the original 16th-century portal has been preserved in the portico. The single-nave church holds a Baroque wooden altarpiece and two canvases by Francesco Celebrano. We recommend not missing the neo-Gothic Cappellone of 1892, with its frescoed dome, where the wooden statue of the Madonna, crowned in 1893 and 1954, is venerated. The refectory preserves six lunettes from the school of Solimena.
