Sanctuary of San Gennaro alla Solfatara

The Pozzuoli sanctuary built where, according to tradition, St Januarius was beheaded.
The sanctuary stands near the Solfatara, on the spot where tradition places the martyrdom of St Januarius (San Gennaro) in the early 4th century. The church was built by the Capuchins at the end of the 16th century.It preserves the stone on which, according to devotion, the saint was beheaded.
