Remains of the amphitheatre of the Roman colony of Liternum, hidden by vegetation just outside the ancient city.

South of the forum of Liternum, hidden among the trees, substantial remains of the colony's amphitheatre survive. It was identified at the end of the 19th century and partly explored in the early decades of the 20th.It stood just outside the city, skirted by the ancient Via Domitiana, in an area of Roman funerary monuments and burials; in late antiquity a small Christian basilica was built here with reused materials. The Region lists it as closed.
